We are proud to have volunteered construction services to The Plant, a vertical farm and food business incubator located in a former meat-packing plant on Chicago’s south side. The Plant is a model for sustainable, closed-loop, urban agriculture and localized business. The Plant, located at 1400 W. 46th Street in Chicago’s Back of the Yard District on the south side is a labor of love for its founder, John Edel, and the many volunteers and entrepreneurs who are helping to create an amazing model of sustainability and a vision of what’s possible in urban argriculture and community building. To learn more about John’s other project, the Chicago Sustainable Manufacturing Center, follow this link: Chicago Sustainable Manufacturing Center.
We have also volunteered building and at the Oak Park Animal Care League, “a limited admission shelter located in Oak Park”. Their stated goal is to “help homeless cats, dogs, and other small animals by providing them food, shelter, medical attention and love until we can find them a loving home.” The Oak Park Animal Care League, located at 1011 Garfield Street, Oak Park, IL 60304. We have been pleased to have the opportunity to assist in their mission. To find out more about the Oak Park Animal Care League you can check out their website.
